Overview and Industry Sectors
We seek to capitalize on large trends that create attractive investment opportunities in two areas:

• The continuing Information Technology revolution, including software-based services, networked communications, Internet-enabled business models, and novel technologies.
• The emerging Energy Technology developments in the production of new-age power generation, storage, conditioning, and delivery systems.

Competitive Factors
Our primary focus is companies founded on technological breakthroughs or innovative business models. We strive to partner with entrepreneurs poised to change the rules of competition or even spawn a new demand for a product or service. We select Information Technology and Energy Technology portfolio companies that are operating in dynamic environments in which there is no established, dominant competitor or where there exists rapidly changing rules of competition that make a dominant competitor vulnerable.

Additional factors that are important to us as we evaluate any investment opportunity are:

• Potential for sustainable competitive advantage.
• Motivated and cohesive operating management with relevant experience.
• Attractive exit opportunities.

Stage & Size
We seek early and expansion-stage companies for investment that enable us to add value to the companies we invest in. We make new investments of $3 to $8 million in Information Technology and Energy Technology companies, with sensitivity to New York-based companies. We are not a seed stage investor. We lead most investments in which we participate, and have the ability to bring in additional investors to ensure a company is backed by an investor team with adequate funding resources for the future. We take an active role in the growth of our portfolio companies and typically serve on the Board of Directors.
